  • Concept: Objective:
To install a customised artwork into the ceiling of Smartloft's elevator. To design within the safety requirements of the specified elevator regulations and light restrictions. To create a unique customised artwork designed specifically for smartloft. To work with the smartloft team to meet the design requirements and to safely install the work in the most efficient and cost effective way.

    Project Proposal:
To design an artwork that is made from a combination of polyester resins. The following garments feature in an abstract composition, fabric, small objects etc. The artwork is a one off piece with a bright composition, an organic energetic aesthetic narratively unique Gibson cast a solid resin block with the fabrics, layering up the materials in a composition. This “block” was then sliced into pieces that are 10mm thick and selected pieces werel sanded and polished back. The final pieces have an estimated thickness of 9mm each. The finish chosen was a gloss lacquer. These pieces were then cut to size into 2 or 3 plates that fit together to make a plate that is the required dimensions for the elevator installation. This was fixed into the elevator directly using a steel frame. The plate design was determined upon discussion of the installation plan/restrictions.
